I read in Jared Diamond's Collapse that almost all of Iceland's buildings are heated with geothermal power, but damn, yo. Very impressive.

yep. that's the diff. between living in a very cold country That Has Hot Springs and living in a very cold country.......that doesn't.
i live in the latter, subsequently the very idea of hot tubbing it outdoors is very appealing to me. anyway - last-last series of Top Gear had a Mercedes that ran on H fuel cells, said it was already availible in Iceland - because that was the only place with a filling station. anyone else see that segement? related to geothermal is heat-exchange technology - this is used a lot in Holland in their indoor horticultural greenhouses. |

Here's a strange and interesting theory: The Black Plague may have caused a mini Ice Age! The idea is that the plague killed so many people that farmland was overrun with trees which absorbed huge amounts of CO2 causing cooling.

Scientists now believe that humans are the only possible explanation of freak climate changes.

This week's Time suggests that we've passed the point of no return for global warming, and that we are in the throes of environmental collapse.

Wow, this is really crazy! Canadian Environmental Minister stops scientist from promoting his own book! And it's a science fiction novel at that, though it paints a world where Global Warming has put Canada and the U.S. at odds to the point of warfare.

NASA is sending up a mission to study mysterious, "noctilucent" clouds that started showing up with increasing frequency a few years ago.
