What really, really sucks, is that this "torture ban" is just an ammendment to a massive defense spending bill that now includes another ammendment allowing for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Supreme Court rules 5-3 that military tribunal trials at Guantanamo are a violation of American and international law.
Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams. - Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai, Yamamoto Tsunetomo |

Given the conservative nature of that court, this puts the Bush administration somewhere to the right of Pinochet.

Leave it to the Midwest. Mineapolis police take the "War on Terror" to heart and arrest a bunch of people dressed as zombies for carrying "simulated weapons of mass destruction".

Clearly the zombies were very terrifying indeed. Perhaps the Minneapolis police can do us all a favor and arrest the people who make horror movies.

I don't know if this is real or not, but it certainly adds to the mythology of the "War on Terror" regardless.

Today in the UK a bunch of people were arrested for a supposed plot to blow up ten planes bound for the U.S. using liquid explosives. The reaction of the TWA is certainly worthy of some questioning...

Interesting page 10 story here! Apparently the bust last week was somewhat drummed up! The terrorist group wasn't actually headed to the airport to act out this supposed plot after all, the U.S. in fact pressured the U.K. to bust them sooneer than the Brits wanted.

The media-government industrial complex, exaggerate? Say it ain't so! I never really believed the 48 hours stuff, for obvious reasons it would be dangerous to let it get that far advanced.

Re: War on Terrorism | ||

Well the word was that they just found out from a friendly tip, but that doesn't seem to be very true. Perhaps they guy who did call them threatened to call the media if they didn't do something immediately and give him credit, forcing the two governments to act sooner than anticipated.

Re: War on Terrorism | ||

Eh. That sort of speculation is dangerous. What I'd been hearing is that they found out from a tip 12 months ago.
