This has nothing to do with the Territories at all, but My Space is glitching, and I spent a long time writing this response to someone and html coding parts of it, so I'm just pasting it here so I can copy and post it when things get better there. (Since the HTML is different here, it will be set for that at that hopefully very soon time...)
We were about to Reply to the great review from Kazuma when we suddenly realized that if we did so, we'd completely mess up the <a href="http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewThread&entryID=21958468&groupID=101607864&adTopicID=21&Mytoken=BE0CF8FF-FED3-4526-B5C189689F91DA7D8727035">Lets Review Each Other</a> game by screwing with the succession. Since we didn't want to do that, and the idea of each artist who posts being reviewed by an unknown next person is too cool, we decided there needed to be a thread for those who want to Reply to the reviewer. In our case, he raised many important points and questions that we feel we must answer!
"DAF is like LSD in Music, and isn't being LSD in Music the Aim of every Experimental Musician? Or at least Dope?"
It is entirely possible this may be an influence in our music, but it is not an area we intend to be obsessed with. We would contend that many great Experimental Musicians have done their work without being influenced or centered around psychedelics, though many obviously also have. We are more interested in communication than hallucination, though there is often a fine line.
"So Nice His Noise...I wonder if ther's really a member of And You Shall Know Us By The Trail of Dead in it....Isn't this that famous Rock Band or am I wrong?"
1st that should be "They're" not "His", we have several members, not all of whom are even male. There is indeed a face behind one of the masks who was a founding member in Austin TX of the band ...Trail of Dead. She left early to <a href="http://www.myspace.com/notdoubleleopards">pursue her own music</a> as well as play with us, and so didn't actually make it onto any of their albums, and agrees with most of the rest of us that those discs are horribly over-produced. ...Trail of Dead is indeed semi-famous and they do rock, though live is the only way you would really notice.
"Listen to the end of "you god damn bull f...": Hear the violins? Reminds me of Penderecki or something like that...Know Penderecki? no? You should!"
We are not certain if our violinist would count Penderecki as an influence or not, but he very well could. S'pose you could ask <a href="http://www.myspace.com/ericostrowski ">Him.</a> At least some of us are familiar and appreciate the comparison.
"I wonder how DAF "writes" his stuff...is there a structure behind it? or is the Randomness (is this a word?... sorry no native speaker) his concept?"
Most of our pieces are in fact composed using <a href="http://www.myspace.com/johncageisrad ">John Cage's</a> theory of "Chance Determination" - i.e. there is a score, but the outcome is left open to the events within the score. We frequently get lumped in with "Improv" groups, but that is actually not what we are about at all. We do take a "Noise Rock" approach to our scores that sometimes makes them come completely apart however. So we end up deconstructing avant garde which can be very messy indeed. In the next few days we intend to post some of the scores on our Blog so that people can see we are not making this up.
"However this is ART!
Anyone saying something else is a godd damn @#%$ Bull Fighter!
I love this loFi sound, it rocks!"
Not much to say to that more than "Thank You."
"We hear in his sound Autechre here and there, a little bit of Aphexs noise jumping from time to time in ones ear, like I already said: Penderecki, Schönberg?"
You've certainly put us in good company. A few of us listen to Autechre quite a lot, but were dissapointed by how boring they were live. We try to do the opposite - to give people a little something they can't get listening to their cds at home.
"The fourth track is the only track that contains a really melody and again clusters of strings!
I also like the voice samples : Listen to Track 2 and wait for the @#%$ Goat! Love it!"
Actually, the "Goat" is a Frog, but you are not the first to make that mistake either.
