EZ Board goes My Space |
Lead | |
|
Well Chris, looks like even you can't escape (unless you stop posting here) as EZ Board's new Yuku identity is sorely familiar in style and content. I hope this and my other boards survive it o.k. It seems a bit like we've all been sold down the river...

Is it really so bad? I think I heard about Yuku a couple of months ago. Are they planning on actually folding Ezboard into Yuku?

You know, for a while I've not been particularly happy with being permanently locked in to EZBoard via our past archives. Perhaps it's time I write a little something to export that data if it ever becomes necessary.

It does indeed look as if EZ Board will be the board portion of Yuku the way that the Groups on My Space are that for them, and that you will be part of Yuku if you wish to participate in any of the old EZ Boards. Actually the profiles, while obviously My Space derivative (but then My Space is Friendster derivative is it not?) are not quite as awful aesthetically as far as defaults are concerned.
Personally, I'd rather we'd been absorbed into My Space as that is where the action is. Yuku will have a huge uphill battle to stay afloat, but perhaps the Japanesesque name means there is some Eastern money behind this? |

So this is weird, apparently Yuku created a board to replace this one back in February:
psychologie60596.yuku.com/ They just never closed down this one we're on here! This is to say the least, highly unusual. |

That is completely bizarre. I guess we should just stay here then since the conversion messed up the layout.

That kind of layout change is rampant in their conversions. They also have a habit of losing posts during the conversions, but now I wonder if it's because they make the boards significantly in advance of when they do them.

I just noticed the "this board will be moved this week" notice has finally appeared! We've had that notice up for like 3 months at the Science Fiction Message Board though, so it may mean very little. It's like a warning that you'll die some day...

The forcible Yuku-love has now struck on every board I frequent except this one (where it did, but not fully...)

I'm getting kind of nervous. Is our layout going to get destroyed?

Science Fiction transferred relatively well. They seem to be paying a bit more attention to what they're doing.

Yikes, it happened. Rather drastic too...

Ugh. Horrible. I fixed the forum subjects so that they are bolded, but I think that's the furthest I'm willing to go at this point. I can be found on
Facebook.

Yeah, one could hardly expect you to spend the time to redesign this to what it once was when nobody really comes around. Sad it couldn't have stayed in
place as a better semi-active archive at least. For some reason the Science Fiction board imported with the design much more in tact. There were some
permissions lost and broke internal links, but with a little work all was reasonably easily fixed.

I couldn't bring myself to leave it alone with that awful blue in the Pub, so I just figured out how to fix it. Okay. Now I'm done with design tweaks.
On a related note, although the design has changed, I guess it's not so drastic as to be unusable. Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. It does look a lot better. Actually, we found at the Science
Fiction Message Board that traffic actually increased significantly after Yuku hit. And it is so nice to be able to just paste links and images. There
are really more pros than cons for an active board. The question, and it's a fair and honest one, is do you at this point in your life want an active board.

That is a good question. I haven't really been in the mood for online participation in the last couple of years. Even my blog has fallen to the wayside,
and the only consistent online presence I retain now is probably on Facebook.

Hey Rob! Great to have you back. The posts might have got lost because EZ/Yuku actually created this new board twice, once while the old one was still up and
running.

Yikes, we have obnoxious ads now. I suppose it isn't worth paying to get rid of them given infrequent posting. Kind of a quandry...
