well, i know one of the first things i ever posted in this thread was that crazy guy, "amenlover's", web page.
i recently went searching for him again, wondering if he'd been up to anything recently, and found amenlover's livejournal!! well, okay, so he hasn't written anything in it in like 4 years. but it's really quite hilarious! |

Here's a left-brain vs. right-brain test in the form of an optical illusion.
Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams. - Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai, Yamamoto Tsunetomo |

i definitely saw her going clockwise. wasn't able to see her going counter-clockwise at all, even though supposedly, according to the article, "most people" would see her going "anti-clockwise".
what about you, nicholas? |

i wonder....since it's an australian newspaper that published that article, is their idea of "clockwise" and "anti-clockwise" the opposite of ours? like their toilets flushing go the opposite direction down the toilet due to the earth's spin being the opposite down there, so maybe their clocks do too?
because i definitely, strongly saw counter-clockwise! |

I saw clockwise forever and ever until I started focusing on her shadow. For some reason, the shadow is the easiest part for me to move in a counter-clockwise direction. Once I focused on that, the rest of the figure would eventually follow over the course of a single rotation.
It's a really bizarre effect. Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams. - Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai, Yamamoto Tsunetomo |

i just tried that, but it still looked like clockwise to me. i guess i must be extremely right-brained. but i already knew that. math makes me cry.

There, there. I am okay with math, but I sympathize. When I got into college, I was thinking, Yes, no more math classes ever again!, figuring that my calculus courses in high school would be the end of it.
I was wrong in a very wrong way. I double-majored in Psychology and Computer Science, not realizing that CS is actually very math-oriented. Psychology has statistics, but it's not as bad as linear algebra, which I still have the occasional school-related nightmare about. I wonder how L. Jim would do on this "test." I'm off to Savannah for work now -- see Center for Better Living board. Talk soon. Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. He said "See Center for Better Living Board" as to why he's off, so I suppose we better take a looksie.
I didn't take the test because I've taken so many and I always come up right about 50/50 between left and right brain. Which probably means I should program video games for a living or something... |
