Yeah, it was some quality stuff. I've had "better," I suppose, but I had to pay a lot for it. One of the biggest surprises for me about Tokyo was how affordable it was. This isn't the best comparison, but the prices were more or less comparable to New York's, and certain things like good sushi and Italian food were cheaper.

Little Italy is definitely good stuff. Parts of it are really touristy at this point, but there are still some old school family-run establishments.

The best pasta I ever had was penne alla vodka at Luigi's in Rome, just off the Corso Vittorio Emmanuele II. This will sound lame, but I felt incredibly happy just from eating it. If I'd been told that I wouldn't be able to find penne like that again, at least in New York, I probably would've wept.

I'm also a big fan of Roman pizza, not so much for the thinness of its crust but for its use of fresh ingredients. Like, I really enjoy mushroom pizza, but trying the Roman version with fresh mushrooms (as opposed to the canned variety that many New York pizzerias use) is a revelation. I did not know that mushrooms could explode with juicy flavor on a pizza.

Hey, do you two like "uni" sushi? I tried sea urchin gonads for the first time in Tokyo. Once I got over the disturbing texture, I think I liked it. Maybe.
