Despite losing a year's worth of posts on this and every other topic, there probably needs to be something about the Supreme Court's Grokster decision.

Absolute absurdmentism. I heard that even Verizon might be in trouble from this because of some employee's unfortunate copywriting.

After Grokster, the next shot in the file-sharing wars: darknets!

Interesting. That's like the late '80's, early '90's, when you had local software piracy BBS'es with the same membership qualifications -- you must know someone who knows someone who knows the SysOp, etc.
I read an article that said that pirated movies and television shows are still swapped in the same way, but uploading new content (games) that the BBS didn't have before entitled you to some download credits. I'm sure that's true. E-mail is probably the safest way to swap songs after all. Given the "illegal intention" clause of Grokster decision, it seems like this guy is rather doomed. But maybe the idea can get out there before he gets sued or shut down. I'd think his greatest risk which wasn't even mentioned in the article, would be if the feds claim he's facilitating the distribution of child porn (which this would undoubtedly be used for in short order.)

The lawyers for the first person to refuse to settle out of court with the RIAA have a blog now!

More on the Mother of 5, taking on the RIAA, including the possibility that they may end up having to pay her for legal costs in the long run.

Another truly horrific RIAA victim story. Ironically, they have nabbed someone who was probably sympathetic to their propoganda to begin with.

Their music's not really my bag of tea, but you gotta give Harvey Danger credit for walking the walk as they release their new album for free on the internet. Check out that artist's statement, it's so totally right on. My band has taken this same tact for years, but we're a bunch of weirdos nobody would ever sign commercially to begin with (or so we found out over a period of years), Harvey-D have songs on the (mainstream) radio and stuff!

Isn't this nice? Just when it seems nobody on the planet will defend poor megacorp Sony for secretly infecting it's customers' computers with malicious spyware, The RIAA says it's "no biggie"!

I suppose it had to happen, but how they can say it has anything to do with piracy is a mystery: RIAA Targets Mash-ups.

Hitting an incredible new low, the RIAA filed legal papers now that say that ripping a cd is not fair use, nor apparently is copying it purely as a back up.

This is getting Betamax/VCR-esque.
