Well the EFF is obviously the extreme other opinion and all, but the direct quotes from the RIAA deposition speak for themselves, and are quite contradictory to what they said in the Grokster case.

RIAA & Friends (MPAA, etc) say, "Life Threatening DRM is their Right!" And removal of said, is not our right.
Meanwhile in the land of free health care, Canada's RIAA (CRIA) Study Shows P2P Users Actually Buy Music! Those crazy Canadians, next they'll be telling us that radio listeners actually buy music too. |

In a very positive sign, the Consumer Electronics Association launches an ad which implies rather directly that consumers aren't pirates for wanting to make digital copies of entertainment art!

Oh brother. Now the RIAA is attacking YouTube and Google Video for letting people put up videos of themselves and their children dancing around foolishly to hit songs. What inanity will they think of next?

A great little legal paper which challenges the concept of the RIAA suing people for hundreds of dollars per song that retail online at 99 cents or less a piece!

The head of Warner Music admits that his kids have "stolen" music online. He makes it sound rather like they were grounded or something for it, though he won't really come out with it. Apparently he didn't think that he owed millions of dollars like he has the working moms and grandparents his label and the RIAA have sued for those type of amounts for their kids using file sharing services.

This is breaking news! Steve Jobs Blogs Publicly Against DRM - Says He'd "Drop It in a Hearbeat".
I'm not sure if he's telling the truth or not, but it's sure an about face from Apple's previous stated position - that they'd have DRM even if the labels didn't want it. Perhaps he's just passing the blame here, but it is an "in" for electronic freedom fighters, if only because of the cult of the man's personality. |

In a more material victory, a record label may have to pay a P2P defendant's legal fees!

Not only does Steve Jobs hate DRM, but apparently, so do most music executives! Psst, hey guys, I have this wacky idea...

David Byrne has some very interesting things to say in his speech at SXSW, about the future (or lack thereof) or record labels, and the idiocy of DRM making it impossible to do everything you want with music you buy.
